Little Ann - What Should I Do?
Sorry for being MIA folks. Here’s a sweet track by Little Ann from a pretty cool comp.
Dee Dee Warwick “Don’t You Ever Give Up On Me” (Mercury 72738, 1967)
*Dee Dee Double Play*
Lil’ Sis of Soul, Delia Mae “Dee Dee” Warwick would have been 70 years old today. The Huskier voiced little sister of Dionne is one helluva enigma: solo she was always in her elder sisters shadow, right from the start when Dionne was noticed for her higher, more delicate voice by Burt Bacharach during the sessions for “Mexican Divorce” in 1961.
But Dee Dee’s voice in the background would be so prominent, so instrumental to so many other records that she’d move on to her own solo career the same year Dionne made her breakthrough in 1963. Although it was a hit or miss career, there were many highlights along the way, like this towering 1967 pleader that deserved better than obscurity.
Bill Withers - I Don’t Know
